Thirsty Thursday – Tipperary

Cocktails on the Fly
Since the next big holiday is St. Patrick’s Day I thought we should check out a few whiskey drinks during the next month. This week we are going back to Cocktails on the Fly with Alberta Straub, to learn how to make the Tipperary.

1 1/2 oz Irish Wiskey. (Alberta uses Tullamore Dew)
3/4 oz. Green Chartreuse
Splash of Maraschino Liqueur
Splash of Orange Bitters
Add ice and stir
Strain and pour into a chilled cocktail glass
Garnish with a lemon twist.

Be sure to read the Wikipedia article about the Green Chartreuse. It’s a ancient liqueur with an interesting history.

Tubing at Whaleback

Eileen at Whaleback tubing slope

Last Friday Eileen and I went to Whaleback Mt. for an hour or so of tubing. It cost a dollar a run which you can buy in a 7 run or 15 run ticket.

Neither of us had ever been tubing before and were curious what it was like. The trail was shorther than I expected and I wondered if we would go very fast. Well, we went fast enough so that the attendent was afraid we would go over the snowbank at the bottom. They had us start about halfway down the fist slope to keep our speed down.

Eileen

It took a few tries, but we managed to get a few action shots. Eileen’s photo of me turned out the best.

Okemo

View from the top of Okemo

Tuesday morning at Okemo was bit overcast with showers and freezing rain in the forcast later in the day. I was dissappointed that several lifts were not running, including the Solitude lift. I really like the trails on that section of the moutain. But if forced me to try some new trails.

I took the photo above a little after 9 from the summit. After checking with Google Earth I discovered that Mt. Monadnock was visible on the right hand side of the picture.
I got some early fast runs down Chief trail and the World Cup trails while the grooming was fresh. Later in the morning I moved over and did some runs on Jolly Green Giant, Timberline and Sapphire trails. All three are excellent internediate trails. The grooming was fantastic.

Mt. Ascutney from the Jolly Green Giant trail

I like this view of Ascutney Mt. from the Jolly Green Giant trail. I ended up doing several runs down the Giant before the day was over.
Upper World Cup trail on Okemo

The shot above is on the Upper World Cup trail. It’s a black diamond trail so I was pleased to be skiing well enough to make several great runs on this trail.
