Magic Monday at Mt. Sunapee

Mt. Sunapee has $39 lift tickets on most Mondays this year.

Monday January 28, 2008 was a fantastic day on the mountain. I was on the second chair going to the top and got some awesome runs on Mt. Sunapee’s exceptionally groomed trails. The crowds were smaller than the weekend with blue skies and temps in the low 30’s. The trails on the main face are in shadows until mid-morning so I did a few early runs on the Sunbowl side of the mountain.

I brought my new Olympus Stylus 790 and got a few good photos. I set up the camera for sports shots and got a few action ski photos. I was even able to get a few from the lift.

Midweek at Killington

I was able to make it up to Killington for some uncrowded mid-week skiing last week. I was glad to see they were making snow and recovering from the January thaw, although several trails were still closed. The weather was great and I was able to get some pretty good photos of the view. I did discover that resort services and lift operations are scaled back mid-week. Pico is only open Thursday – Monday. Stage one of the Skyship is also only running Thursday through Monday. Only the Snowshed and Ramshead lodges were providing full food services and the cafeteria at the top was completely closed.

Dartmouth Skiway

No crowds and no lines!

My goal for Saturday, January 5th was to go to a ski area where the lines for the lift were short and tickets were affordible. I found all of those things and more at Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme, NH. The tempratures were in the 30’s with packed powder conditions.

I started the day on Winslow Mt. and went over to the Holts Ledge side where I got this great view of Smarts Moutain.

I dropped into the lodge for a break. I enjoy drinking my coffee on the deck where I can watch people skiing on the Lyme Drop across the street. I then returned to Winslow for some fantastic runs down MBA, which is one of my favorite trails.
